Beckham fever
In case you missed it, David Beckham (yes, he is the one referenced in the movie "Bend it like Beckham") has signed a contract with the LA Galaxy and is coming to the USA to play soccer this summer. The MLS schedule was just announced and Becks will be making an appearance at Gillette Stadium to play our NE Revolution on August 12th. Apparently, the Revolution ticket office is deciding to NOT make single game tickets available to the public, period. Any ticket for this game must be part of a group purchase or part of a package. I know why they are doing this. They have a chance to sell more tickets to other games. But if they really wanted to sell tickets, they would reduce the hurdles required to get to the game. For that soccer fan who has stayed on the sidelines thus far, make it easy for them to get to the game. You assume that once there, they'll will like what they see and come back for more. If you create this hurdle of having to buy tickets to other games to get to this ONE, only those who can afford the tickets will come and you will have missed an opportunity to really maximize the population for the game. Disclosure: I do have two season tickets and based upon the poor experience buying them last season (our first as season ticket holders), I almost did not return to the fold this season. That is another story for another time. Labels: David Beckham, football, MLS, NE Revolution, soccer |
